Delhi Govt Imposes Weekend Curfew; Metro To Operate At 100% Capacity

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) imposed a weekend curfew in the national capital to curb the spread of COVID-19. Meanwhile, nobody will be allowed to travel for non-essential reasons. Moreover, government offices, barring essential services, have been asked to allow their employees to work from home. Private offices can operate at 50% capacity. However, buses and metro can run at 100% seating capacity, as per the order.

Hope's Classroom Buses For Underprivileged Children In Delhi

Underprivileged students had no access to education during the pandemic owing to the closure of schools. However, Hope, a community school in Delhi came as a rescue as they provided the opportunity of the online classroom and mid-day meals. The initiative has been taken by Tejas Asia NGO, where “Hope buses” are provided across Delhi, inside which children study for two hours on subjects like maths and language skills.

WB's Transport Department Introduces 2 CNG-Powered Buses In Kolkata

CNG-aided buses have been introduced in Kolkata on August 10 to ferry people from Newtown to Howrah. Initially, the introduction of two buses by the state’s transport department is to mitigate pollution and rising diesel costs. “Apart from reducing pollution levels, the operational costs of running buses will come down significantly (once battery- or CNG-powered vehicles are introduced),” said Firhad Hakim, WB Transport Minister.

Kerala's First LNG-Powered Bus Service Available For Commuters

Kerala Transport Minister Antony Raju inaugurated the first green bus service in the state on June 21, at Thiruvananthapuram's major bus terminal. Reportedly, the bus will provide service between Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam-Kozhikode routes. However, the initiative will serve two major goals of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation, switching to a cheaper fuel to save up money & less harmful compared to other petroleums.

NTPC To Launch Hydrogen Fueled Buses On Delhi-Jaipur Route

India for the first time will be running special hydrogen-fueled busses for intercity commute, starting from Delhi-Jaipur route. To be run by the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited, the initiative aims to reduce public transport's dependency on crude oils.
