CAA Not To Be Implemented In Kerala, Says CM Pinarayi Vijayan

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that his government will not implement the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Speaking at a function marking one year anniversary of the LDF government, Vijayan said, "the state government has taken a firm stand that citizenship would not be determined based on religion". The CAA has been passed by the parliament but is yet to be implemented.

High Court Issues Notice To AMU Student Under CAA Agitation 2019-20

Due to alleged inflammatory speeches at the CAA agitation in 2019-20, the Delhi HC has issued a notice to Sharjeel Imam, a student of Aligarh Muslim University. As per the charge sheet, "Imam is accused of delivering seditious speeches and inciting a particular section of the community to indulge in unlawful activities, detrimental to sovereignty and integrity of the nation." However, Imam was arrested in 2020 from Bihar.

Parliament Extends Time Limit To Frame CAA 2019 Rules

Minister Nityanand Rai has stated that the parliament has extended the time to frame the rules under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. According to the new development, the rules will be presented before April 9 in the Lok Sabha and before July 9 in Rajya Sabha. Moreover, Minister Rai said the foreigners covered under the CAA may submit applications after the rules are notified.

Amit Shah Says Rules For CAA To Be Framed Once Vaccination Begins

Man Held For Sharing Anti-CAA Text In Whatsapp Free After 5 Months

A man from Madhya Pradesh’s Shajapur district police had been imprisoned for five months for sharing a pro-Shaheen Bagh post over WhatsApp. The 28-year-old  Anwar had been arrested on July 27 after a charge for evoking religious sentiments and was released on December 1. Reportedly, Anwar was denied bail untill his seventh attempt. Moreover, he has been directed for counselling by the Indore High Court.
