Days after four members of an Indian-origin Sikh family were found dead in California, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs described it as "shocking". On October 7, the Union Ministry said its mission in San Francisco is following up on the matter with local authorities. "Local police authorities are actively probing the matter. Our mission in San Francisco is following up on it," said MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.

Indin-origin family of four, eight-month-old Aroohi Dheri, her 27-year-old mother Jasleen Kaur, her 36-year-old father Jasdeep Singh, and her 39-year-old uncle Amandeep Singh, who were kidnapped in the US state of California were found dead in a remote rural area. The US Department of Justice would be examining the crime scene. Furthermore, the relatives of the family in Hoshiarpur, India has been informed about the incident.

Officials in California have adopted a first-of-its-kind rule that would ban the sale of new gas-powered automobiles by 2035. The regulations would not apply to used automobiles, enabling them to remain on the road. The rules will not be effective immediately, but rather in 2026. However, the Biden administration must still approve the decision before it can go into effect.  

A US federal appeals court declared on May 11 that California's restriction on selling semi-automatic guns to adults under the age of 21 violates the country's constitution. In California, buyers under the age of 21 are already forbidden from purchasing firearms. The case went to court after being brought up by a number of individuals and groups advocating for gun ownership rights. 

In a bizarre coincidence, a California-based woman, Fatima Madrigal, gave birth to twins just 15 minutes apart but the newborn's date of birth will fall on different dates. The coincidence happened when Madrigal gave birth to her son Alfredo on December 31 at 11:45 pm but his sister, Aylin, was born after 15 minutes on January 1. ''I was surprised and happy that she arrived at midnight,'' said Madrigal.
