The meeting came days after the Punjab concluded its Assembly elections, but Singh clarified that the meeting is to discuss about Punjab, not elections. Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Names Malerkotla As 23rd District Of State
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr on May 14, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh named a Muslim-dominated area, Malerkotla, as the 23rd district of the state. CM Singh stated Rs 500 crore will be allocated for the development works, including a medical college after the name of Sher Mohammed Khan, in the newly-formed district. Besides, a girl's college, all-women police station and a bus station have also been announced for Malerkotla.
