The former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh lost election from his Patiala Urban constituency against the Aam Aadmi Party's Ajit Pal Singh Kohli. While, Kohli secured 33,142 votes, whereas Amarinder got 22,868 votes. Captain Amarinder Singh, who recently floated new Punjab Lok Congress has met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on March 7. The meeting came days after the Punjab concluded its Assembly elections, but Singh clarified that the meeting is to discuss about Punjab, not elections. "The alliance with the BJP has done well in Punjab and are waiting for the results, scheduled on March 10," said Singh.

Amarinder Singh confirmed to form an alliance with the BJP for the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, on December 17. The formal announcement came after a meeting between Amarinder Singh and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in Charge of BJP in Punjab. "We are ready and we are going to win this election. The decision on seat sharing will be taken on seat-to-seat basis of winnability being the priority," said Amarinder Singh.

Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh on October 27, confirmed on forming his own political party months before the Assembly elections, sharing seats with the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). "Yes, I'm forming the party. I don't know what its name will be. Let's wait for the election commission as my lawyers are working on it," said Amarinder Singh. "There will be many congressmen coming in," he added.

Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Names Malerkotla As 23rd District Of State
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr on May 14, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh named a Muslim-dominated area, Malerkotla, as the 23rd district of the state. CM Singh stated Rs 500 crore will be allocated for the development works, including a medical college after the name of Sher Mohammed Khan, in the newly-formed district. Besides, a girl's college, all-women police station and a bus station have also been announced for Malerkotla.
