India on October 27, rejected its decision to announce "net zero carbon emissions target", given by Glasgow Climate Summit, and said it is more important to plan the reduction of carbon dioxide causing global warming. India which is considered to be world's third biggest carbon emitter after china, is under pressure to become carbon neutral by mid-century. However the country is planning to decrease the amount of emissions for now.  

The Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warned in its sixth report ''Climate Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis'' the global temperature of the earth will reach 1.5 degrees Celsius in two decades. According to the report, more heatwaves, longer summer seasons, shorter cold seasons, and severe can occur due to global warming. However, reducing global emissions to net-zero by 2040 can curtail such activities.

Streaming OTT platforms in HD for 30 minutes emits as much CO2 as a 6-km car drive, revealed a report by the UK's Royal Society. Claiming that HD streaming is eight times bigger emitter than the standard definition (SD), the scientists suggested platforms and regulators to limit resolution to check carbon footprints. A joint study by China, US and Italy pointed that despite a drop in carbon emissions, the global oceanic temperature in 2020 was recorded as the warmest in history. The report mentioned that the above 2,000 metres of oceans absorbed relatively greater heat than 2019. Moreover, the study chief Cheng Lijing said that due to the delayed response, the climate change might last for long by manifesting typhoons, hurricanes and extreme rainfall.

International Energy Agency predicted a 7% decline in global energy-related carbon dioxide emissions in 2020. Citing COVID-19, the IEA anticipated a drop of 5% in energy demands in 2020, the largest slump in past century.
