CDS General Anil Chauhan Meets Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh
Newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan met with union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on September 30. This came hours after General Chauhan officially took charge as the new CDS. This is also the first time a retired officer has been reappointed in this position. Notably, India’s first CDS General Bipin Rawat died in a plane crash in Tamil Nadu, last year December.

Lt General Anil Chauhan Becomes New Chief Of Defence Staff
Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) on September 27. General Chauhan had retired as the Eastern Army Commander and was serving as the Military Advisor to the National Security Council. This marks the first time a retired officer was appointed at such a position, and a gazette notification was issued to facilitate a change in rules for appointment.

'Post Of CDS Will Be Filled Soon', Says Defence Minister Rajnath Singh
Speaking at a media briefing, union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that a new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) will appointed soon. He further stated that the "process for it is underway". The announcement comes after India's first CDS General Bipin Rawat passed away in a plane crash, in December 2021. The post of CDS is of the highest uniformed officer in rank.
