Chandigarh Admin To Bar Unvaccinated Students From Attending Classes

The UT Chandigarh Administration has decided to bar unvaccinated school students, who are eligible for vaccination, from attending physical classes. There are no options for online classes either. Notably, a sero-survey had revealed in July 2021, that 69% of the children in Chandigarh already had Covid antibodies, due to past infection. Dr Jayaprakash Muliyil, an NTAGI member, had earlier said that there was no need to vaccinate children.

Auto, Cab Drivers To Go On Strike Against Fuel Price Hike In Chandigarh

Concerned about the rising fuel prices, the Cab Auto Sanyukt Morcha (CASM) called for a strike on April 12. Planned in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, the protest will have 'Chakka-Jam' in three regions, as the prices of petrol and diesel surged from Rs 45 to Rs 82 per liter. However, emergency services are exempted from strikes. The CASM also said, the protest will intensify if their demands go unheard.

Haryana CM Raises Chandigarh Issue, Moves Resolution

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar moved a resolution in the Haryana State Assembly session on April 5.  The resolution was in regard to the construction of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal.  In the moved resolution, the Haryana CM urged the BJP-led Central Government to ensure the construction of the canal. Furthermore, the resolution came after the Punjab CM moved a resolution, demanding Chandigarh into Punjab.

Punjab CM Demands Inclusion Of Chandigarh To Punjab State, Passes Resolution

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann urged the Central Government to immediately transfer Chandigarh to Punjab. In regard to this, on April 1, the Punjab Assembly passed a resolution and said, "for maintaining harmony and taking the sentiments of people into account, this House once again recommends to raise the matter with Central government to immediately transfer Chandigarh to Punjab". Chandigarh Electricity Department Protests Against Privatisation; Residents Suffer

Employees of the Chandigarh Electricity Department called for a three-day strike, starting from February 23. The protest is against the Union Territory Government, which had announced a "power privatisation". Opposing the same, the strike has been organised, resulting in a power outage in Punjab's Capital. Reportedly, elderly people and kids are suffering as there is no electricity. The protestors demanded a solution for the issue.

Rajnath Singh Launches Space Science & Technology Centre: Chandigarh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Kalpana Chawla Centre for Research in Space Science and Technolgy in Chandigarh University, on January 3. Reportedly, it will help to train students who are interested in space science and satellite development. Meanwhile, Singh said that India so far sent 342 satellites in space for 34 countries. He added that the ISRO also earned Rs 5,600 crore by launching missions over three years.
