Fire Breaks Out At New Lajpat Rai Market In Delhi

Delhi Fire Services officials said that a fire started at New Lajpat Rai Market near the Red Fort, on January 6. However, no casualty was reported in this incident, which engulfed around 60 Khokas (kiosks) in the market. Meanwhile, 13 fire tenders were rushed to the spot after the fire department received a call around 4:43 am. The police said the fire was doused by 7 am, reported PTI

Viral Video; Delhi's Street Vendor Serves Gol Gappa In Leaf

A street vendor from an area called Chandni Chowk in Delhi went viral on social media for his unique style of serving gol-gappas in a leaf. The video was posted by a food blogger, Arjun Chauhan, which recieved almost three million views. The gol-gappas were seen stuffed with potato filling and channa, dipped in curd. It is served after garnishing with chutney, sev and masala.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Inaugurates Revamped Chandni Chowk

Following the delay of one year, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on September 12 inaugurated the revamped 1.4 km stretch of the Chandni Chowk market with several new facilities. The facilities include street furniture, decorative lights and plants, red granite stone, CCTVs, and no dangling wires. Moreover, food joints can be opened until 12 AM and the stretch will be no traffic zone between 9 AM - 9 PM.

300-Yr-Old Banyan Tree In Delhi's Chandni Chowk Faces Survival Crisis

A 300-year-old banyan tree in Delhi's Chandni Chowk is witnessing a survival crisis. The tree is reportedly facing threats by a real-estate construction work in the surrounding area. Filing a petition in the Delhi High Court, city-based businessman Nitin Gupta has blamed the forest department and the North Municipal Corporation for endangering the tree. Interestingly, two people have even shown interest in adopting the heritage tree.
