Central Government Awaits Recommendations To Fill Vacancies In SC and HCs

The Centre awaits recommendations for major judicial vacancies at the Supreme Court and High courts. The SC has seven vacancies with the first arising after Justice Ranjan Gogoi retired in November 2019 as the Chief Justice of India. However, Kolkata and Allahabad's HC are run by acting Chief Justices at the moment. Moreover, the Chief Justices of Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh HC to retire in May and June respectively.

Rape Victim Writes To CJI Over Horrific Experience During Court Hearing

Expressing her horrific experience during a hearing, the 22-year-old woman penned a letter to CJI SA Bobde to take the necessary steps. According to the letter, sessions judge Sanjay Khanagwal laughed at insensitive remarks made by the accused's counsel Vijay Aggarwal. SC Ends Suo Moto Petition To Frame Ex-CJI Gogoi Of Sexual Misconduct

Due to lack of evidence of any conspiracy to frame former CJI Ranjan Gogoi for sexual assault, the Supreme Court closed its suo motu investigation over the matter. However, Justice AK Patanaik's committee said the theory of conspiracy could not be ruled out. Reportedly, Gogoi was accused of sexually harassing former women employee. However, the SC's in-house enquiry had given him a clean chit in May 2019, citing zero case-substance.

CJI S A Bobde To Inaugurate E-Resource Centre "Nyay Kaushal" In Nagpur

Chief Justice of India (CJI) S A Bobde will be inaugurating the country's first e-resource centre at the Judicial Officers Training Institute in Nagpur, Maharashtra on October 31. The centre, "Nyay Kaushal", aims to help in the e-filing of cases in the courts across the country. Besides the centre, the CJI will also inaugurate "virtual-court" to facilitate the traffic fines cases of the state transport department.

Advocate and activist Prashant Bhushan has been held guilty of contempt on August 14 for his tweets against the Chief Justice of India SA Bobde and the Supreme Court. A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Arun Mishra, rejected Bhushan's explanation that he was exercising his freedom of speech.The Supreme Court will announce the quantum of punishment on August 20.
