Assam CM Expresses Cocern Over Alarming Rate Of Teenage Pregnancies
Assam CM Hemant Biswas highlighted that 16.80% is the rate of teenage pregnancy in the State. The rates are a major alarming concern, especially with the rising number of child marriage cases registered in the State. Assam Police Continues Crackdown Against Child Marriage, Arrests 2,500 People
In Assam, the police is cracking down on the cases of child marriage cases, registered in the State. With over 4,074 cases of child marriages, the Assam Police continued their arrests for a third day in a row and arrested nearly 2,500 people for marrying minor girls or facilitating such marriages. Reacting to this, many citizens staged a protest against the State Police and demanded the release of those arrested.

Iran Executes 3 Women In Single Day For Same Offence
Iran has executed three women in a single day, for charges of murdering their husbands, informed an NGO, on July 29. According to activists, cases of women killing their husbands have increased in the recent times. Most of these women have abusive husbands or were married off as child brides. In 2022, at least 10 women have been hanged in Iran for the same offence.

Teen Pregnancy Costing Uganda's Social & Economic Progress, Warns UN

Child Marriage Case Registered In Kota, 1 Arrested & 5 Booked
In Kota's Jhalawar district, child marriage in the Gurjar community, which happened last week, was reported on May 2, confirmed police. The incident came to light after a short video clip of the minor-couple went viral. As of now, the police arrested one and booked five people under sections of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act. Furthermore, a show-cause notice was sent to officials of the Rawasiya gram panchayat.

2 Minor Girls Rescued From Being Forcibly Married In Indore: Child Marriage
A flying squad of the women and child development department on Indore, intervened and rescued two minor girls from getting married, on April 21. After which, the girls alleged that their father "tortured" them and forced them to get married. According to the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, accused under this statute can be sentenced to undergo rigourous Imprisonment of up to two years and a Rs 1 lakh fine.

Odisha Police Thwarts Child Marriage Attempt In Ganjam
In Odisha's Ganjam district, the administration stopped a child marriage of a 15-year-old girl with a man (30) in Patapur. The marriage of the girl, who studies in class VIII, was fixed on November 29. ''We convinced the parents of both the girl and the man not to marry her till she attains the age of 18,'' said Sanakhemundi Tahasildar Srinibash Behera, on November 30.

Govt Nixes Child Brides From Domestic Violence Data Of Health Survey
Citing new child protection law, the Centre has omitted the details of domestic violence faced by child brides from recent National Health Survey. While the development came after the previous report found nearly one in six girls married girls aged between 15-19 faced abuse, experts say this will prevent them to get help. Notably, India accounts to over 20% of world’s adolescents and highest child marriages in South Asia.

5 Countries Including India Account For Over 50% Global Child Brides
According to an analysis published by UNICEF, India ranked among the top five countries that accounted for over 50% of child brides. Reportedly, of the 650 million girls and women who were married in their childhood, half of them belonged to Bangladesh, Brazil, Ethiopia, India, and Nigeria. The UNICEF's Henrietta Fore stressed the countries to have proper health services including sexual and reproductive health services for women.

6 Arrested In Hyderabad For Minor Marriage Charges
Six people were arrested in Hyderabad on December 31 for committing themselves in an 'illegal' marriage between a 16-year-old girl and a 57-year-old man.
