SC Raises Delay In Adoption Process Issue, Hears Pleas

Terming child adoption a "human thing", the Supreme Court on Friday flagged the issue of "great delay" in the process and said several children are awaiting adoption in hope of a better life. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud-led bench heard pleas,  including one seeking to simplify the legal process for child adoption in India. He said the petitioners have said this process has virtually come to a standstill.

Amid a massive political slugfest over Udhayanidhi Stalin's ‘Sanatana Dharma’ remarks, a group of 262 eminent citizens, including former bureaucrats, judges and Army veterans, on Tuesday wrote to the Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud urging him to take suo moto cognisance of the alleged hate speech made by the Tamil Nadu minister that, according to them, “could incite communal disharmony and sectarian violence”.

WhatsApp Message In Name Of CJI Chandrachud Is Fake

The Secretary General of the Supreme Court has rubbished a purported “message” being circulated on WhatsApp with a photo of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and claiming that the CJI has asked people to come out on the streets and protest against the government. Howeber, the Secretary General of the Supreme Court and also Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta confirmed that the message being circulated was fake.

Lawyers Can Work In Hybrid Mode, Says CJI DY Chandrachud

In a relief to lawyers. the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said that lawyers are free to appear virtually. The decision was taken amid the rising number of Novel Coronavirus. On April 5, the CJI Chandrachud said, "We saw newspaper reports on rising COVID cases. Lawyers can use hybrid mode. If you choose to appear online, we will hear you."

SC To Use AI For Live Transcription Hearing

At a first, the Supreme Court used Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology to transcribe its proceedings. On February 21, the Top Court started live transcription service of a court hearing for a trial during the hearing of a case of Maharashtra political crisis. The service was used in the courtroom of CJI DY Chandrachud. AI has been a transforming process powered by Natural Language Processing.
