Odisha CM Requests Centre to Confer 'Classical' Status to Odissi Music

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik on September 25 wrote to the Centre, requesting 'classical' status to Odissi music. He stated that Odissi music records back to the second century BC and has an individuality of its own (own core raga and tala), different from Hindustani and Karnatak music; and claimed it meets all the requirements to be conferred the status. The Odisha cabinet had approved the proposal regarding this notice.
