Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) established India's first pilot plant to convert high ash coal to methanol in Hyderabad, said the Ministry of Science and Technology on September 17. The plant can generate 0.25 metric tons per day. Reportedly, coal is converted into 99% pure methanol and can be used as a transportation fuel. ''This technology will help the country move towards clean energy and self-reliance," said the Ministry.

With an aim to produce clean energy, Mukesh Ambani announced Rs 75,000 crore investment for the set up of "Giga Factories", on June 24. The factories will be set to up produce solar photovoltaic cells, green hydrogen, batteries, and fuel cells over the next three years to bridge the "green energy divide in India and globally".
