Global Warming, Climate Change Major Cause Of Preterm Babies Death

The recently released 'Born Too Soon: Decade of Action on Preterm Birth' report by WHO, UNICEF and Partnership for Maternal New Born and Child Health highlights myriad impacts of climate change to be the reason for detahs of preterm babies. As per the report, 90% babies of low income nations died of massive air pollution, as unlike rich countries, they make no contribution towards climate change and global warming.

Ban On Single-Use Plastic Items To Come Into Effect From July 1; Plastic Wrappers, Cutlery, Straw Prohibited

Manufacturing, stocking, import, distribution or sale of single-use plastic items including wrappers, plastic cutlery, straws, etc will be prohibited from July 1. The notification of ban was issued in August, 2021, giving one year time for manufacturers and other associates to prepare for alternatives. The time has come for vendors to switch to use of non-plastic items. Also, biodegradable and compostable plastics are allowed.

Ozone May Be Heating Earth More Than We Know, Claims Study

As per a research of University of California, alteration to ozone levels in the upper and lower atmosphere were responsible for almost a third of the Global warming. In addition, the impact was visible in ocean waters bordering Antarctica in the second half of the 20th century. ''This study reveals it also has a big impact on the ocean’s ability to absorb excess heat from the atmosphere,'' stated a researcher.

According to a study, climate change can worsen mental health conditions. In addition, elevated temperatures lead to an increased risk of hospitalization due to metabolic, cardiovascular, and respiratory conditions. The study was conducted between 2010 and 2019 on 2 million people, aged 18 years and older, across the U.S. Notably, around 3 lakh people died in 2019 due to heatwaves.

Africa Affected By Climate Change, Worse Yet To Come: UN

UN reports suggested that climate change will adversely affect the world and Africa has already become a victim of the same. ''If the world warms just another degree Celsius by 2050, an additional 1.4 million African children will suffer severe stunting from malnutrition that limits growth and cognitive development,'' stated the report. Notably, Agricultural productivity growth has been reduced by 34% since 1961 due to climate change.
