PM Modi Participates In 50th Year Celebrations Of ICRISAT: Hyderabad

PM Narendra Modi, reached Hyderabad to inaugurate "Statue of Equality", on February 5. At the RGIA Hyderabad airport, Telangana Governor, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and CS Somesh Kumar welcomed PM Modi. Later, he visited the ICRISAT Campus participated in the Golden Jubilee celebrations and inaugurated Climate Change Research Facility at the ICRISAT. Later, he will visit Shamshabad and inaugurate 216 feet tall Ramanujacharya's statue.

2021 Named India's Hottest Year In Last Decade & 5th Hottest Year Since 1901: IMD

T India Meteorological Department (IMD), stated that India is getting hotter, as the year 2021 was the fifth warmest year since 1901. The report stated that last year was the warmest in the last decade (2012-2021), as the annual mean land surface air temperature was 0.44 degree Celsius. The rise in average temperatures could have an adverse effect on extreme climatic conditions, crop patterns and urban disaster management.

Alaskan Polar Bears Migrate To Russia Due To Climate Change

Global warming is one of the most important factors which affects animal population and habitats. Similarly, in Alaska, since temperatures have risen, polar bears have been forced to move to Russia's Wrangel Island. About 40 percent of the polar bear population in Alaska has dropped between 2001 to 2010. Annual Alaska's temperature has risen to 4.8° Celsius in the last 50 years.

Over 100 Countries Promise To End Deforestation By 2030: COP26

In the COP26 climate talks held in Glasgow on November 1, over 100 countries promised to end deforestation and land degradation by the end of 2030. ''We will have a chance to end humanity's long history as nature's conqueror, and instead become its custodian,'' said UK PM Boris Johnson. Reportedly, forests help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 30%, preventing the climate from getting warm.

New Zealand Pledges To Reduce Carbon Emissions By 50% By 2030

In the latest development, New Zealand decided to reduce its carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 ahead of the United Nations COP26 climate conference on the evening of October 31 in Scotland's Glasgow. ''We're not immune to the impact of climate change, so it's critical we pull our weight,'' said PM Jacinda Ardern. Earlier, New Zealand had set the target to reduce emissions by 30% by 2030.

Cloud Brightening Technique To Prevent Coral Bleaching: Australia

To save the Great-Barrier Reef, scientists are sprinkling droplets of ocean water into the sky. Annually, high temperatures and warm waters bleach the corals of the Australian reef. "If we do it over an extended period for a few weeks to a couple of months when the corals are experiencing a marine heatwave, we can start to lower the water temperature over the Reef," explained Daniel Harrison project-head.
