World's '1st Patient' Gets Diagnosed Due To Climate Change: Canada

A patient in Canada was diagnosed with a breathing problem suffering from climate change, as per reports. The patient was struggling to breathe after the recent incidents of wildfires in Kootenays which worsened her asthma, media reports said. Moreover, Kootenays has seen over 1,600 wildfires in the year 2021, leading to several deaths due to heatwaves, according to the BC Wildfire Services report.

U.K's Long Lasting Snow Patch Melts After 300 Years

The United Kingdom's long lasting snow patch, "the Sphinx", which had survived through countless summer seasons, melted away for the eighth time in 300 years. Ironically, the snow patch found on Braeriach in Scotland, melted on the day COP26 was scheduled. Experts believe rise in climate temperature to be the cause. "How prescient it is, our long lasting patch of snow melted on the eve of COP26", said the expert.

Coal Imports In India Drops By 2.7% In August; 15.22 MT In 2021

India experienced a decline in its coal imports to 15.22 million tonnes (MT) from 15.64 MT, which is 2.7% less in August 2021. Besides, the total coal imports this year, non-coking coal was 9.08 MT against 10.33 MT last year. Approximately 6.71% of coal imports have decreased through major and non-major ports. Moreover, the crisis was caused due to the closure of some mines and monsoons, says Coal Minister.

China, US Agree On Stronger, Urgent Climate Agreement

The US and China have agreed to cooperate on the grounds of urgent climate crisis. World's two biggest carbon polluters released a statement saying that they “are committed to cooperating with each other and with other countries to tackle the climate crisis”. A study published in the Royal Society Open Science journal has revealed that polar bears are forced to eat seabirds' eggs instead of seals, their usual prey. Reportedly, this dietary adaptation is driven by the climate change-led global warming that is shrinking the Artic hunting areas. Forced to hunt on the mainland, bears are also invading human-inhabited land. Notably, only 25,000 polar bears are left in the world.
