Bihar Govt To Give Rs 2 Lakh Aid For Kin Of Who Died In UK Rain

In the latest development, Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar on October 23 announced that his government will provide the compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of Bihar who died in the recent Uttarakhand rains. Reportedly, 10 people from Bihar's West Champaran district lost their lives in the rains. While announcing the compensation, Kumar said, ''The resident commissioner is in constant touch with the state government.''

WB CM Mamata Banerjee Backs Caste-Based Census In India

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has also extended her hand to support the caste-based census in the country on August 23. Banerjee said, ''I'll not have any problem accepting it. If all parties accept it, Why won't I?.'' Notably, her stance came after the delegation of 10 parties led by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar met PM Narendra Modi in Bihar to raise the demand.

Schools, Colleges & Universities To Reopen With 50% Attendance: Bihar

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on July 5 announced that schools, colleges, and universities will reopen with 50% attendance. He tweeted that special arrangements will be made for vaccinating adult students, teachers, and staff of the institution. Government Training Institutes will also reopen with 50% attendance. Earlier, due to the second wave, the Bihar government had announced summer vacations for the institutes from May 1 to June 30.

Bihar Govt Announce Funds For Girls To Motivate For Higher Education

To motivate girls for higher education, the Bihar Government has announced a grant of Rs 50,000 to graduated girls and Rs 25,000 to girls passing in the intermediate examination. The decision was made at a cabinet meeting to provide financial assistance under CM Kanya Utthan Yojana. Reportedly, the scheme would come to effect immediately, and the funds will be directly transferred to the beneficiaries' bank account.

MP Ramchandra Prasad Singh Appointed As JD(U) National President

Bureaucrat turned politician Ramchandra Prasad Singh was appointed as JD(U)'s National President on December 27. The 62-Year-old is a Rajya Sabha MP and has served previously as national secretary of the party. Reportedly, he had been referred by outgoing-president Nitish Kumar and was approved unanimously in the party meeting. The meeting was called by JD(U) after six of its seven MLAs joined BJP in Arunachal Pradesh.

For a fourth consecutive term in office, Nitish Kumar took charge as the Bihar CM on November 16. Bihar Elections: Election Commission Puts Ban On Telecast Of Exit Polls

In view of the upcoming Bihar polls, the Election Commission has imposed a ban on telecast and conduct of opinion polls through any medium - print or electronic. The ban will remain in effect from October 28 till November 7. The first phase of the elections will begin on October 28 while the second and third phases are slated for November 3 and 7 respectively.
