Disappointed with the Allahabad HC, the Uttar Pradesh Govt challenged the acquittal of former state minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati under the POCSO Act. Notably, Prajapati was arrested and sent to jail in March 2017 on charges of gang-raping a woman from Chitrakoot district and attempting to rape her minor daughter. He and four other were convicted in 2017 rape case, but was aquitted in the POCSO case.

The Bharatiya Janata Party will hold a meeting on January 17, in Delhi to discuss the election strategy and the manifesto for the UP election. The meeting will be attended by CM Yogi Adityanath. The meeting comes two days after BJP released the list of candidates for the first and second phases. The discussion will also be held on the remaining eight candidates of the first and second phases. 

IAS officer Durga Shankar Mishra has been named as the next Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh. "The appointments committee of the Cabinet has approved repatriation of Shri Durga Shankar Mishra, IAS (UP 1984) to his cadre for his proposed appointment as Chief Secretary, Uttar Pradesh," read official statement. UP CM Yogi Adityanath has announced to construct houses for poor people under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna. The construction will be on lands, freed from the mafia. Later in the day, CM Yogi will attend various programs including laying stone of Defense Research and Development Organization's lab.
