PM Modi Announces 2 Lakh Ex Gratia In Kerala Boat Accident

PM Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those died in the Kerala Boat Accident. In Kerala's Mallapuram region, a boat capsized resulting in the death of 21 people and leaving many injured. Furthermore, the National Disaster Response Force is at the spot, and search operation to rescue and find the missing people is underway. A case is also registered for investigation.

No Additional Compensation For Bhopal Gas Tragedy Victims: SC

In a major drawback for Bhopal Gas Tragedy victims, the Supreme Court (SC,) rejected the Centre's curative petition seeking additional compensation from Union Carbide Corporation (UCC.)  In the plea, the Centre demanded additional Rs 7,844 crores, over already paid $470 million, which claimed 3,000 lives and maimed thousands more. Wall Collapse Incident Amid Rains Kill 13, UP CM Announces Ex-Gratia

In Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow, heavy rains brought down walls killing 13 people including nine labourers who were buried alive under the debris, on September 16. BEST Ordered To Pay Rs 36 Lakhs To Man Who Lost Leg In Accident

In Mumbai, a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has ordered the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) to pay over Rs. 36 lakhs to Aslahuddin Shaikh, a 31-year-old man. Notably, the man lost his right leg had been amputated in 2017 after a BEST bus hit his motorcycle in Malad. The decision came after Shaikh's advocate informed that doctors told him that he is 85% disabled.

Karnataka HC Awards Rs 5 Lakh Compensation To Person Over Wrongful Arrest By Police

Karnataka High Court has ordered for the compensation of a 56-year-old man over wrongful arrest due to a confusion in his name. The Hon'ble court noted that the man's identification was not cross-checked and verified, and awarded a compensation of Rs 5 lakh. Reportedly, Ningaraju N, a resident of Bangalore's Kalidasa layout, was arrested in a 2011 criminal case, in confusion with accused Raju NGN.

SC Orders States To Provide Compensation To Family Members Of COVID-19 Victims

Supreme Court mandated all states and union territories to immediately pay compensation to family members of COVID-19 victims on July 18. A bench ruled that if a claimant has a complaint about the nonpayment of compensation or the rejection of their claim, they should contact the appropriate grievance redressal committee. The bench ordered that the cash be transferred to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) account within two days.

Lightning Kills 3 People, Leaves 6 Injured In Uttar Pradesh

In Uttar Pradesh's Kaneta village, lightning killed three people and left six injured, confirmed police on May 22. Notably, the incident happened on May 21, when some laborers were cutting trees. The three dead people were identified as Rifaqat (55), Premchandr (23), and Rajendra (30) and will be given financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh. Furthermore, the injured were taken to the hospital and are said to be stable.

Three Students Drown In Ramgarh Pond

Three students drowned in a Ramgarh pond on May 8. Prabhat Kumar, the Superintendent of Police, shared that the incident occurred in the area of the Rajrappa police station. The bodies have been recovered. The deceased have been identified as students of the Ramgarh Government Engineering College. More details are awaited as an investigation is underway.
