Baazigar Actor Dalip Tahil Convicted In 2018 Drunk Driving Case

"Baazigar" actor Dalip Tahil has been sentenced two months jail, in 2018 drunk driving case. Notably, in 2018, Tahil was accused of ramming his car into an auto rickshaw in the upscale Khar suburbs of Mumbai, which had resulted into a woman being seriously injured. Tahil was convicted in the case by a magistrate court in the city on the basis of evidence of being alcoholic, confirmed by doctor.

Special NIA Court Convicts 6th Accused In Bengaluru Fake Currency Scam

A special NIA court has convicted a woman in the Bengaluru fake currency case involving smuggling of huge quantities of high-quality counterfeit banknotes from Bangladesh into India via Karnataka. Vanitha alias 'Thangam' is the sixth accused to be convicted in the case. She was sentenced to six years of imprisonment under Section 489B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), five years of imprisonment under Section 489C.

Senior Tamil Nadu Cop Imprisoned In Sexual Harassment Case

A Tamil Nadu court convicted and sentenced Rajesh Das, the former Special Director-General of the state's police force, to three years imprisonment. On June 16, the court bench announced verdict in a sexual harassment case filed by a junior officer in February 2021. Das was also fined Rs 10,000. The court in Tamil Nadu's Villupuram also imposed a fine of Rs 500 on cop who stopped FIR of the crime.

Rahul Gandhi Disqualified As Lok Sabha Member

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was today disqualified as a Member of Lok Sabha from the date of his conviction in the 2019 defamation case. The Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a notification in this regard on March 24. The decision was taken under the Article 110 (1) (e) of the Indian Constitution, Representation of the People Act 1951. Meanwhile, the Congress conducted a meeting, expressing disappointment over Gandhi's conviction.

BJP MLA, 15 Others Convicted In 32013 Muzaffarnagar Riots

A special MP/MLA court sentenced BJP legislator Vikram Saini and 11 others to two years imprisonment in a 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots case. On October 11, a Special Judge Gopal Upadhyay convicted them for rioting and other offences and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each. In addition, the court acquitted 15 other accused in the case for lack of evidence.

Odisha Court Convicts 8 People For Killing Sarpanch Head

An Odisha's Kendrapara district court sentenced eight people to life imprisonment for murdering a panchayat head. Reviewing a case, judge Gopal Chandra Behera convicted the assailants and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 each for brutally killing Chitrasen Das. The judgement was based on a cross-examination of 39 witnesses. Notably, the accused allegedly killed Das six years ago over an old enmity.

Madurai Special Court, announced life imprisonment to 10 people convicted in 2015 Tamil Nadu Dis-honor Killing Case, on March 8. Gokulraj, a 21-year-old Dalit boy, an engineer was killed for having a relationship with an upper caste woman and was dumped on Namakkal railway tracks. Furthermore, last week, the special court had convicted ten people and acquitted five under the horrific case of honor killing.

RJD Supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav Convicted In 5th Fodder Scam Case

RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was convicted in the Doranda treasury scam by CBI court on February 15, in Ranchi. Lalu Yadav has already been convicted in four other matters related to the infamous Rs 950 crore fodder scam cases. The further sentencing for Lalu Yadav and the 39 others found guilty, will take place on February 21. Notably, Yadav was out on bail for the four convicted cases.

Arthur Conan Doyle's Only Real Life Probe To Be Released As Book

A London-based author Shrabani Basu will launch a book - The Mystery of the Parsee Lawyer - that involves a British Indian George Edalji wrongly convicted of a crime in the 20th century. Based on a true story, the case was investigated by Sherlock Holmes author Arthur Conan Doyle. Interestingly, this was the only real-life crime that was investigated by Arthur. Reportedly, the book is slated to release on March 10.
