FDA Approves 1st COVID-19 Shot For Kids: US

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Pfizer, and BioNTech SE Coronavirus vaccines for children aged between 5 to 11 years. Reports stated that the FDA's decision is expected to make vaccines available to 28 million American children going to school. As of now, Only a few countries such as China, Cuba and United Arab Emirates have so far cleared vaccines for children, said reports.

American Pharma Pauses Trials of Potential COVID-19 Treatment

American Pharmaceutical company, Eli Lilly, which was running trials of a potential "antibody treatment" for COVID-19 has paused its trials. Reportedly, the trials were approved by the US Government and the treatment was based on the use of "monoclonal antibodies". Reports suggest that the trial was paused owing to "potential safety concerns". Though the company confirmed the news, it did not reveal the exact cause.

Chennai: Non-COVID Hospitals Cannot Deny 'Lifesaving' Treatment

US President Trump Discharged From Hospital; To Begin Campaigning Soon

US President Donald Trump, after a four-day stay for COVID-19 treatment, was discharged from the Walter Reed Medical Centre on October 5 . Dr Sean Coley said the President's health had improved, and he had met or exceeded all standard hospital discharge criteria. While leaving the hospital, Trump tweeted, "Will be back on the Campaign Trail soon!" However, doctors said Trump will remain under medical supervision for next few days.

ICMR Develops A Potential Cure For COVID-19

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), on October 1, announced that it has developed a potential drug for curing COVID-19, in collaboration with Biological E Limited. ICMR said that it has prepared a  "highly purified antisera", which is supposedly acquired from horses, after infecting them with inactivated Sars-CoV2. ICMR added that the "antisera" will have to undergo clinical trials, to establish safety and efficacy.

Russia Approves First Prescription Drug To Treat Mild and Moderate COVID-19 Symptoms

In a bid to control COVID-19, Russia has authorized R-Pharm's 'Coronavir' as a prescription drug for the treatment of Coronavirus. Reportedly, the drug can be used to treat COVID-19 patients with mild and moderate symptoms and the company is planning to make it available in pharmacies by next week. Russia is the first nation to have approved a prescription drug for Coronavirus.
