India Reports 1.61 Lakh Fresh Cases Of COVID-19 & 1.733 Deaths In Last 24 Hours
India reported 1,61,386 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of cases to 4.16 crore, on February 2, according to the Union Health Ministry. The country also recorded 1,733 deaths due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 4,97,975. About 167.29 crore doses of vaccine have been administered, so far. The daily positivity rate stands at 9.26%.

Centre Imposes Curbs In Districts With Over 10% Covid Positivity Rate
With daily Covid numbers sky-rocketing in India, the Centre now wants stricter curbs to be imposed in districts with over 10% positivity rate in a bid to limit the cases. Reportedly, 46 districts show over 10% positivity rate while 53 districts display a rate between 5%-10%. "Over the past few weeks, 40,000 fresh cases are being reported every day in India", claims Balram Bhargava, Director General of ICMR.

PM Modi Praises UP For Handling Pandemic Efficiently
PM Modi commended Uttar Pradesh for the incredible handling of the pandemic's second wave during his visit to Varanasi on July 15. He said that UP which recorded 30,000 cases at the peak of the second wave compared to last year's single-day 7,016 cases, "stood up and battled the virus efficiently". He expressed his admiration for the state's vaccination numbers and its healthcare and frontline workers.
