Xiaomi Reportedly Fires Over 900 Employees Amid Economical Crisis

Amid the economical crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Xiaomi reportedly fired more than 900 employees. On August 21, local media reported that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi fired close to 3% of its workforce. The company reported a sharp decline in the second quarter revenue and to control the expenses and crisis, let go of the employees. However, Xiaomi has not yet made this confirmation.

No Fine On Motor Vehicle Tax For 3 Months: Punjab Govt

The AAP-led Punjab Government announced a major relief for pandemic hit transporters in the State. On April 23, CM Bhagwant Mann said, transport businessmen, are allowed to pay motor vehicle tax without any penalty in the next three months. "Transporters are the backbone of our economy and we stand by them in every need". Notably, this was one of the promises made by during the 2022 polls.

Delhi Records 314 Recoveries In Last 24 Hours Amid Rise In COVID-19 Cases

Delhi recorded 314 Covid-19 recoveries in the last 24 hours, pushing the total number of recoveries in the national capital up to 18,41,890. As per the Delhi government health bulletin, 1,009 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours in the highly vaccinated national capital. Delhi has also reimposed the mask mandate amid a surge in the number of infections. Public health experts have strongly advised against panic.

Pilgrims Thank Indian Govt For Reopening Kartarpur Corridor

The 4.7-kilometer-long Kartarpur corridor was reopened for pilgrims on November 17. It was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic for a long time. ''It's a welcome step. People have been eagerly waiting to offer prayers at Gurudwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan,'' said Gurvinder Singh, a Pilgrim. Reportedly, the corridor provides a visa-free facility to the shrine. It was opened in 2019 for the first time for pilgrims.

India Reports 10 Times Higher Deaths During Pandemic Than Covid

Excess deaths in India have crossed between 3.4 to 4.7 million in this COVID-19 pandemic. However, not all of them are caused by COVID-19 but are hugely influenced by the pandemic. Currently, India does not have an estimated excess death count while the mortality surveys are only till 2019. US-based Center for Global Development researchers utilized three data sources to evaluate the excess all-cause deaths in the pandemic till 21 June.

Son Shoots Dad In Anger, Surrenders To Police: Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad Police has arrested a 29-year-old man named Shivam Chanana on July 8 when he informed them that he had shot his father dead.
