3 Crore Citizens Vaccinated In Maharashtra; Achieves Milestone

A tweet by the Chief Minister’s office stated that the Maharashtra government has achieved a milestone by fully vaccinating more than three crore citizens, as of October 24. However, the state reported 1,201 fresh cases on October 26. Furthermore, total deaths in the state due to Coronavirus stands at crossed 1.40 lakh, while it reported 32 new deaths in the last 24 hours.read-more

Pfizer COVID Vaccine Shows 90.7% Efficacy In children: Report

Pfizer's clinical trial in children from the age of 5 to 11 years was not primarily designed to measure efficacy against the virus. Instead, it compared the amount of neutralizing antibodies induced by the vaccine in children to the response of older recipients in the adult trials. Based on the results the company said that their COVID-19 vaccine induced a robust immune response in children.

2nd Billion Doses Likely To Be Administered In 3-4 Months: Vaccine Panel Chief

According to vaccine panel head Dr NK Arora, India took more than nine months to achieve the one billion milestone. However, the next one billion is expected to be achieved in three to four months. Reportedly, 30% of adults are fully vaccinated. "We think by the end of this year everybody will get at least one dose and there'll be few left for the second dose,'' said Dr. Arora.

India Administers Highest Doses Of Vaccine So Far In Single Day

According to the Health Ministry's latest data of August 17, India administered over 88.13 lakh doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in the last 24 hours categorising as the highest vaccination achieved to date. With this India also inoculated more than 55 crore vaccines. Besides, the ministry said India reported 25,166 new COVID-19 cases which is ''the lowest single-day rise in 154 days''. The total case in India stands at 3,22,50,679.

Nashik Civic Body Begins Home Vaccine Drive For Physically Disabled

Nashik Civic body (NMC) has begun a home immunization drive for beneficiaries who are bed-ridden and physically disabled. To begin with, five have been vaccinated so far. Earlier, the Maharashtra government permitted home vaccination for people who are bed-ridden for at least six months owing to illness, age, and other factors. However, only Covaxin will be administered to such beneficiaries following relatives' consent.

Govt May Limit Dosage Gap Of Covishield Vaccine For 45 Yrs Or Above

The government is soon planning to reduce the interval between the two jabs of the Covishield vaccine for those who are 45 years and 45 due to the good availability of the vaccine "In two to four weeks, dosage interval of Covishield will be reduced based on final scientific evidence," said the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation in India (NTAGI). The current interval is 12-16 weeks.

Vaccination For Children To Launch By September: AIIMS

According to AIIMS Chief, Dr. Randeep Guleria, vaccination for children in India is likely to start by September 2021. “Hopefully, by September, we should start vaccinating children, and that will be a big boost as far as breaking the chain of transmission is concerned," said Dr. Guleria. Maharashtra Govt Issues New Guidelines For Fully Vaccinated Travellers

As per the press release issued by the Maharashtra government, people who have been fully vaccinated with two doses against Covid-19 need not carry a negative RT-PCR test report while entering Maharashtra. It also stated that the relaxation of Covid norms is applicable to domestic and international travellers. Also, the state government has extended the validity of the RT-PCR reports from 48 hours to 72 hours.

Sputnik-V: Interim Trials Show Promising Results

The Russian "Sputnik-V" vaccine has shown more than 90 percent effectiveness in the ongoing interim trials. According to a study by Lancet journal, Sputnik-V is effective against many variants of Covid-19. Hildegund C.J. Ertl, a vaccine scientist at Wistar Institute said that the "results are great". He also said that the Russian vaccine has proven to be one of the safest and effective vaccines in the world.
