India has reported 2,541 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total active case load to 16,522, on April 25. Also, 30 new fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll in the country to 5,22,223. The daily positivity rate stands at 0.84% and weekly positivity rate at 0.54%. Notably, India has administered over 187.71 cumulative doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

The Centre on May 4 stated that "healthy individuals undertaking inter-state domestic travel" and "COVID-19-recovered individuals at the time of hospital discharge" do not need to undergo COVID-19 tests. Revising the testing guidelines, the government stated that the decision has been taken to ease the load of already overwhelmed testing laboratories. The Assam Government on February 10 announced the halt of COVID-19 testings at railway stations and airports from March 1. Taking to Twitter,  Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the decision had been taken as the cases have shown a steep decline and the "vaccination being in full swing." However, he has requested people to follow  "COVID appropriate behaviour." Notably, the mortality rate in Assam is at 0.50%.
