Andhra Extends COVID Curfew Till May 31; Orders Financial Aid To Orphans

CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led Andhra government on May 17 extended the curfew till May 31 citing the massive surge in COVID-19 cases in the state. CM Jagan said the decision was taken as it takes four week lockdown to break the COVID transmission chain. Moreover, directing the officials to monitor children orphaned due to COVID-19, he asked to prepare an action plan and provide financial assistance to them.

No Transmission Of COVID-19 Through Animals, Clarifies Government

Discarding claims of COVID-19 transmission through animals, NITI Ayog member VK Paul on May 5 stated, "The virus is not spreading from animals." He said it "is human to human transmission" and advised people to follow the COVID-19 appropriate behaviour like using masks and maintaining social distancing. The clarification came after reports surfaced that stated eight Asiatic lions have tested COVID-19 positive in Hyderabad.
