Covid Vaccine

The Union Ministry of Health said that India reported 2,68,833 new COVID-19 cases, 1,22,684 recoveries, and 402 deaths in the last 24 hours, on January 15, which is 4,631 cases more than January 14. In the last 24 hours 16,13,740 tests were conducted. Meanwhile, India's Omicron tally has climbed to 6,041. The daily positivity rate in the country stands at 16.66%. India has administered 156.02 crore vaccine doses to people. 

Andaman and Nicobar Islands on November 9, recorded one new Covid-19 case, bringing the total to 7,665. The union territory presently contains ten active COVID-19 cases, with all of the patients located in South Andaman district, which includes Port Blair. As per reports, India has planned to start clinical trials of the US- based Akston Biosciences' second generation COVID-19 vaccine. Reportedly, the vaccine can be produced at a much lower cost, that requires no refrigeration and has a shelf life of six months. Moreover, samples of the vaccine has been sent to a government laboratory to check for safety prior to starting clinical trials in India, as per reports .

Dr. Mansukh Mandvaiya, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, said on November 1, India reached the milestone of vaccinating 78% of its population with the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. India finally achieves the 100-crore Covid-19 vaccination benchmark on October 21. PM Narendra Modi on the occasion expressed his gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and everyone who contributed to the success. Modi tweeted, "We are witnessing the triumph of Indian science, enterprise, and the collective spirit of 130 crore Indians." However, Modi was joined by Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya as he engaged with hospital officials.
