India Reports 2.68 Lakh Fresh Cases, Daily Positivity Rate Stands At 16.66%
The Union Ministry of Health said that India reported 2,68,833 new COVID-19 cases, 1,22,684 recoveries, and 402 deaths in the last 24 hours, on January 15, which is 4,631 cases more than January 14. In the last 24 hours 16,13,740 tests were conducted. Meanwhile, India's Omicron tally has climbed to 6,041. The daily positivity rate in the country stands at 16.66%. India has administered 156.02 crore vaccine doses to people.

India To Start Clinical Trials Of U.S Based 2nd Gen Vaccines
As per reports, India has planned to start clinical trials of the US- based Akston Biosciences' second generation COVID-19 vaccine. Reportedly, the vaccine can be produced at a much lower cost, that requires no refrigeration and has a shelf life of six months. Moreover, samples of the vaccine has been sent to a government laboratory to check for safety prior to starting clinical trials in India, as per reports .

Assam Records 296 Fresh Covid-19 Cases With 7 Deaths In 24 Hours
Assam reported 296 new Coronavirus cases, and seven deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Reportedly, the total cases have risen to 6,10,941 with a death toll of 6,004 in the state. Tamil Nadu To Become 1st State In India To Administer COVID Vaccine To Kids
While speaking at a function, Tamil Nadu's Health Minister M Subramaniam on October 13 said that the state will become the first in India to administer COVID vaccine to children aged 2-18 years after the Centre's approval. Reportedly, the proposal to allow the use of Bharat Bitotech's Covaxin has been sent to the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI). Tamil Nadu is also the first state to vaccinate pregnant women.
