COVID-19: Omicron Cases Reach To 528 In Kerala

Kerala has confirmed 48 new Omicron variant cases on January 15, taking the total infected to 528. The Health Minister Veena George said that out of the 48 cases, 33 came from low-risk countries, two of high-risk nations while nine contracted the disease from their family & four people from other states. However, of the total 528 people, 365 came from low-risk countries, while 92 arrived from high-risk nations.

Observe COVID-19 SOPs in J&K Hospitals:DHSK

Kashmir Health Services Director has asked all the concerned officers to implement COVID-19 SOPs properly in all healthcare institutions. The order was issued in view of the recent COVID-19 surge in the country & detection of some Omicron cases in J&K. As per the order, they will ensure that no patient/attendant is allowed to enter hospital without RT-PCR testing, & masks are put on face by them properly.

Over 200 Cops In Maharastra Succumb To COVID-19 Infection: Report

As many as 265 Maharastra police personnel have succumbed to the COVID-19 infection so far, while there are 2,145 active cases in the state police. The highest number of COVID-related deaths, which is 126, has been recorded in state police personnel posted in Mumbai. Notably, Maharastra reported 46,723 new COVID cases, and out of this, 16,420 new cases were recorded in Mumbai.

Delhi Govt To Provide Yoga Classes For Isolated COVID-19 Patients

Special yoga and pranayama classes will be provided by government for home isolated COVID-19 patients, said Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, on January 11. "A new initiative under 'Delhi ki Yogshala' has been started by the government, whereby an instructor will teach Yoga to Covid patients for their recovery, as Yoga improves immunity," said Kejriwal. Kashmir Valley Reports 1st Case Of Omicron: COVID-19

First case of COVID-19's new variant Omicron was confirmed in Kashmir Valley, on January 11. A pregnant woman from Uri Baramulla tested Omicron positive. Her sample was taken on December 20, 2021 at SDH Uri for genome sequencing as she was COVID-19 postive. "She is stable, and doctors have been rushed to the woman's home and samples of her family members and neighbors will be done," said official.

COVID-19: Tennis Star Novak Djokovic Released From Detention

World number one men's singles tennis player Novak Djokovic on January 10, won his legal appeal on procedural grounds, quashing decision to cancel his visa. Australia's Federal circuit and Family court quashed the cancellation of Djokovic's visa and confirmed that he will he permitted to stay in Australia. Notably, Djokovic was granted a medical exemption to enter Australia, because he had tested positive for COVID-19.

Probe Ordered Against COVID Testing Lab At Amritsar Airport

Health department in Amritsar has initiated a probe against a private lab conducting tests at the International airport, after flyers from Italy tested "false positive" for COVID-19. 125 passengers on flight from Italy had tested positive on January 6, and again on January 7, 172 had tested positive, following which the probe was initiated, as returnees alleged malpractices on part of the lab. Further investigation is underway.

Amazon Cuts Down COVID Paid Leaves For Employees: US

Amid Covid-19, Amazon has shortened its isolation policy to seven days from ten, for a total of up to 40 hours of paid leave, the company announced on January 7. Regardless of vaccination status, the policy is effective immediately, applying to all its US employees. The company said that employees must report a positive diagnosis, and additional leaves are available for those who are still sick after one week.

Assam Announces Incentives For Vaccination Of Frontline Workers

The government in Assam announced monetary incentives for the frontline workers who have been conducting the vaccination drive. According to Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa, the govt decided to give Rs 1,500 per month, as monetary incentive, to each Auxiliary Nurse Midwife, along with their monthly salary till the vaccination is completed. The state has administered 3.87 crore vaccine doses, with 1.62 crore fully vaccinated people.
