Corbevax Vaccine Approved As Booster Dose For Adults: Union Health Ministry

After Covaxin and Covishield, the Union Health Ministry also approved Corbevax as a booster dose against Covid-19.  Biological E's Corbevax is allowed for double-vaccinated people above 18-years-old. Haryana Govt Rolls Out "Free" Boosters For 18-59 Age Group

The Haryana government has rolled out "free" booster doses for the 18-59 age group. The announcement came just days after the Delhi government made booster shots freely available for the age group. Around a whopping Rs 300 crores of taxpayers' money out of the state Covid-19 Relief Fund would be dedicated to this program. Experts are divided on the need for these "precautionary" doses.

SII Halts COVID-19 Vaccine Production Amid Low Demand

The Serum Institute of India has halted the production of the Covishield (AstraZeneca) vaccine amid a glut of vaccine supplies. The SII's stockpile of vaccines has swelled to 200 million doses. The export of Covid vaccines had been earlier restricted, but resumed in November last year. The SII had recently appealed to the government to cut the gap between the second dose and the "precautionary" dose to just six months.

Kerala HC Seeks Centre's Response On Plea Re Post-Covid Vaccination Death

Govt Likely To Reduce Covishield Vaccine Doses Gap

National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) suggested reduction of gap between two doses of Covishield. Notably, acting upon the suggestion, the Central Government is likely to reduce the gap, as Covid-19 cases are rising in different nations, including China. DCGI Grants Market Approval To Covishield & Covaxin With Conditions

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) on January 27, granted regular market approval to India's Covaxin and Covishield vaccines against COVID-19. Following SEC's recommendations, the DCGI allowed only hospitals and clinics to purchase the SII's Covishield and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin under the New Drugs And Clinical Trials 2019 Act. However, the authority needs to submit data every six months to the DCGI and update on CoWIN app.

Andaman & Nicobar Island Achieves 100% Vaccination, Vaccinate 2.86 Lakh People

Andaman & Nicobar Island becomes first in India to achieve 100 % vaccination, under the "nationwide vaccination drive".  The UT in a tweet said, "A&N achieved 100% COVID vaccine coverage making it first state/UT to achieve the feat using only Covishield. The UT Admin overcame Insurmountable odds for the extraordinary feat in one of the remotest parts of world." A total of 2.86 lakh people received both doses of vaccine.
