SC Refuses To Entertain Plea Seeking To Declare Cow As National Animal
A PIL was filed before the Supreme Court of India seeking direction to the centre to declare cow as the national animal of India. The court warned the lawyer, stating that such suits are baseless, and that no fundamental right has been violated. With this, the petitioner withdrew the plea. “Is this the job of the court? Should we throw laws into the wind because you come?,” said the bench.

Lumpy Skin Disease In Cattle Raises Alarm In Rajasthan: 94,000 Infected, 4,000 Dead
A Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) has spread across 16 districts in Rajasthan, and the government is considered a ban on cattle movement. About 94,000 cases of the said infection in cattle has been reported, with at least over 4,000 cattle deaths. Meanwhile, 70,000 are being treated for the disease. Gujarat is believed to be the epicentre of the disease. Notably, Rajasthan has a total cow population of about 14 million.

Assam Police Detain Nine People For Allegedly Smuggling Cattle
Assam Police detained nine people for reportedly smuggling cows from Dhemaji to Nagaon or Jorabat and from Nagaon to Shillong on May 13. In Nagaon, police also rescued 102 cattle heads and seized seven cars. More research is being carried out.

Farmer Files Complaint Against Cows For Not Yielding Milk: Karnataka
Ramaiah, a farmer based in Sidlipura village of Shivamogga district, Karnataka, complained to the police after his cows stopped giving milk. The man alleged that he takes his cows to gaze from 8 AM to 11 AM and from 4 PM to 6 PM every day but they don't yield milk. ''So, police must convince them to give milk,'' said the man. However, the police didn't lodge the "illogical" complaint.

Video Of 'World's Shortest Cow' Goes Viral: Bangladesh
The title of the world's shortest cow could possibly be given to a cow in Bangladesh named 'Rani', as the farm managers have informed the Guinness World Records. Reportedly, the dwarf cow is 20 inches tall, 26 inches long and weigh just about 26 kgs. Notably, the current title is held by a cow named 'Manikam' in India's Kerala which stands at 24.07 inches tall.

Six Cows Died, 12 Severely Sick Due To Food Shortage In UP's Etawah
About six cows were found dead and 12 severely sick at a gaushala (cow shelter) in UP's Etawah district on June 28. Although the cause of death remains uncertain, the shelter workers said that the animals are dying due to food shortages. Manish Yadav Patre, Sankat Mochan Balaji temple's manager (who runs the gaushala) blamed the authorities for not releasing funds for the cows to be taken care of.
