4 Daughters Break Barriers, Perform Last Rites Of Mother: Odisha

In Odisha, four daughters set an example by performing the last rites of their mother after their brothers didn't turn up for the funeral. The incident was reported from the Mangalaghat area in Puri where Jati Nayak, an octogenarian passed away on January 2. The four daughters carried their mother's body for 4 km to reach the cremation ground. Our brothers neglected our mother," said Sitamani Sahu.

Priest Rapes, Cremates 9 Yr Old Girl: Delhi

In a horrific case in south-west Delhi, a 9-year-old girl was raped and cremated by a 55-year-old priest and three employees of a crematorium on August 1. Reportedly, the girl went to take cold water from the water cooler of the crematorium on the very evening when the accused commited the crime and informed the parents that she was ''electrocuted to death''. DCP Pratap Singh said four have been arrested.

COVID Blues: Haryana Crematorium Facing Ashes Pile Up In Lockers

Haryana’s Sonipat district’s biggest crematorium, Shiv Mukti Dham is waiting for kins of COVID deceased to take the unclaimed ashes lying in the lockers. While some families lack money to pay for the rituals, other fear of travelling in pandemic. Mukti dham’s secretary Dr D.L Malhotra said some remains are due to entire family falling prey to COVID-19. He said every year unclaimed urns are immersed in Ganga in Haridwar.

Violence Occurs In Howrah Over Creation Of COVID-19 Crematorium

Locals at Howrah's Bagnan area faced violence, lathi-charge and teargas firing from police over their attempt to resist the creation of a COVID-19 crematorium in the area on May 16. The ruling TMC blamed BJP for instigating the locals, saying that they couldn't turn Bengal into Uttar Pradesh where bodies are thrown into rivers. However, BJP refuted the claims saying it had nothing to do with the matter.

K'taka Min Orders To Create Temporary Cremation, Burial Grounds On Govt Land

Karnataka's Revenue minister R Ashoka on April 20 directed all Deputy Commissioners in the state to transform government land as temporary crematorium spaces. As per Ashoka's order, land within 1-2 km of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) and other cities will be temporarily transformed to cremating grounds. Besides, the minister also addressed the shortage of burial grounds and allowed the setting up of the same near Yelahanka.
