Cyclone Asani Continues To Disrupt Flight Services In Chennai & Vishakapatnam

Ranjith Bhasha, Collector of Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district, warned seafarers from venturing into the sea, in wake of cyclone Asani, on May 11. He further informed that heavy rainfall is expected between Vishakapatnam and Kakinada. Flight operations have been halted on May 11, in Vishakapatnam and Chennai. Reportedly, a total of 17 flights have been cancelled in Chennai, for a second consecutive day.

Cyclone Weakens, Will Turn Into Depression by May 12: IMD

Cyclone Asani moved Northwestwards with 6 kmph speed and lay centered over west-central Bay of Bengal by May 10 evening. According to the IMD, the weather system is very likely to recurve slowly north-northeastwards, and move along Yanam, Kakinda, and Vishakhapatanam coasts. It is going to weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm by May 11 morning, and into a depression by May 12.

Cyclone 'Asani' Is Recurving, Rain Alert Issued

According to the Meteorological Department Cyclone 'Asani' is probably recurving, strong winds and rainfall can occur in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal on May 11. Wind speed can reach 96-105 gusting km per hour to 115 km per hour. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the deep sea area over the central parts of the Bay of Bengal on May 9-10, over Bay of Bengal from May 10-12.

Cyclone Asani To Recurve, Unlikely To Cross AP, Odisha & Bengal

According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), cyclone Asani is likely to recurve over the sea and drift away from the coast. On May 9, IMD stated that cyclone Asani will not cross Andhra Pradesh, Odisha or West Bengal. However, heavy to very heavy isolated rainfall has been predicted over the districts of North coastal Andhra Pradesh, including Vizag and Vijayawada. Cyclone Asani is situated around 500 km south of Vishakapatnam.

'Asani' Is Moving Northwestwards In Odisha, Says Meteorological Centre

According to the Meteorological Centre the cyclone storm 'Asani' is going to move northwestwards till the night of May 10. Rainfall is going to effect many places over districts of coastal Odisha, heavy rainfall can occur at districts like Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri. Weather department advised fishermen not to venture into the deep sea area over central part of Bay of Bengal on May 9-10 and Northwest parts on May 10-12.

Andaman & Nicobar Islands Brace For Cyclone Asani

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Asani approached the shores of Andaman and Nicobar Islands which brought rain and strong winds in the region. In addition, the officials have warned fishermen not to venture into the sea as the cyclonic storm is near the Archipelago. Notably, the Centre has deployed 100 personnel of the National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) and six relief camps to the Union Territory.

IMD Asks Fishermen To Stay Away From Bay Of Bengal In View Of Cyclone Asani

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has asked the Indian fishermen not to venture into the Bay of Bengal sea during March 19 to 22, in view of Cyclone Asani. The low-pressure area will turn into a cyclone storm on February 21, IMD added. Reportedly, Cyclone Asani will form in the Bay of Bengal sea and move towards Andaman & Nicobar Islands and eventually towards Bangladesh and north Myanmar.
