IMD Forecasts Dry Weather Spell In Delhi For Next Seven Days

Mathura Brick Kiln Industry Seeks UP Govt Help After Tauktae Effect

Brick kiln owners in Mathura have requested a waiver of royalty and GST from the UP government to survive the heavy losses faced due to cyclone Tauktae. Reportedly, each of the 250 kiln owners suffered a loss of Rs 8-12 lakhs with cascading effect on 50,000 workers due to early closure of the industry which goes on till mid-June. The District Brick Kiln Association also requested for free rations.

P305 Barge Accident: Mumbai Police Books Captain; Navy Informs 51 Dead

The Mumbai’s Yellow Gate Police on May 21 filed an FIR against the captain of the wrecked P305 Barge on the complaint of P305 engineer. The report says that the captain proceeded further despite several warnings on Cyclone Tauktae. The Mumbai police said that few more will be arrested following the investigation. Reportedly, a Navy spokesperson stated that 51 bodies were found with 27 crew members still missing.

Centre Grants Rs 1,000 Crore For Cyclone Tauktae-Ravaged Gujarat

PM Narendra Modi has announced Rs 1,000 crore for relief work in Gujarat after his aerial survey of the destruction caused by cyclone Tauktae in the state. The PM also promised an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured in the calamity. Cyclone Tauktae has affected mainly districts of Gir Somanth, Amreli and Bhavnagar along with parts of Diu.

Cyclone Tauktae: Navy Saves 146 People From Sinking Near Mumbai Coast

As the cyclone Tauktae has wreaked havoc, the Indian Navy on May 17 saved 146 out of 273 people aboard a barge from sinking into the sea near the Mumbai coast. The rescue operation to save the remaining 127 people, who were on life jacket support, is still being carried out. Warships INS Kochi and INS Kolkata executed the operation in collaboration with offshore vessels Greatship Ahlaya and Ocean Energy.

Cyclone Tauktae To Hit Gujarat Coast At Night; Thousands Evacuated

Cyclone Tauktae is likely to make a landfall at Gujarat’s Bhavnagar coast late on May 17. As a precautionary measure, the government has evacuated nearly 25,000 people from low-lying areas in Porbandar and Mahuva. Nearly 100 NDRF teams along with 16.5 tonnes of equipment have been deployed for relied measures. Reliance Industries’ Jamnagar Plant, producing oxygen for whole country, might be forced to shut for a few hours.

101 Disaster Management Troops Deployed To Tackle Cyclone Tauktae

To combat cyclone Tauktae the National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) has deployed 101 troops with ships and aircraft to different states at risk. Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba with the National Crisis Management Committee has reviewed the situation on May 16, to check the preparedness for the cyclone expected to hit the Gujarat coast on May 18. IMD reported the expected wind speed to be 150 to 160kmph with heavy rainfall.
