Assam Congress Suspends MLA Sherman Ahmed For Violating Party Rules
Sherman Ali Ahmed, Assam Congress MLA, was suspended for persistently breaching the party's guidelines on October 4. Ahmed was On October 2 arrested from his residence for reportedly making inflammatory statements about the eviction drive in Darrang district. Several organizations such as AASU and BJYAM have also filed complaints against him. Ahmed had alleged that the eight victims who died in Darrang were ''not martyrs, but killers''.

Assam Govt Orders Probe To Inquire Death & Firing In Darrang
Following the death of two civilians and injury to several others, including policemen, the Assam Government has initiated a judicial probe into the matter. The scuffle between the personnel and the people in the Darrang district Dhalpur area broke out following the police launched an anti-encroachment drive on September 23.
