Remaining Six Rafale Jets To Arrive In India By April 2022
India will receive the remaining six Rafale fighter jets in April 2022, said Emmanuel Lenain, French Ambassador. "As per the contract, it'll be done on time. COVID hasn't disrupted anything even if factories and many companies were closed for a few weeks," added Lenain. So far 30 rafale jets have arrived in India, with which the Air Force will begin upgrading its fleet from January 2022.

Anita Anand Appointed As Canada's New Defence Minister; Indian-Origin
Indian-origin politician, Anita Anand has been appointed as Canada's new defence minister by the Canadian PM, Justin Trudeau. According to reports, Anita will be replacing Harjit Sajjan, who will now be serving as the minister of the international development agency. Govt Appoints Air Marshal VR Chaudhari As The Next IAF Chief
The Indian government on September 21 announced that Air Marshal VR Chaudhari will be the next Chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF). Chaudhari will take charge after the retirement of RKS Bhadauria on September 30. Currently, VK Chaudhari, the awardee of Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishish Seva Medal, and Vayu Sena Medal, has been serving as the Vice Chief of Air Staff. He's in IAF since 1982.

PM Modi Inaugurates New Defence Ministry Office in Delhi
PM Modi inaugurated two Defence Ministry offices at Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Africa Avenue on September 16. The inauguration was completed in the presence of Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Hardeep Puri and Army Chief MM Naravane. The new defence office will serve 7,000 officials. The buildings have integrated command and control center with modern and safe working spaces.

DRDO Test Fires Surface-To-Air Akash Missile From Coast Of Odisha
The new generation Akash surface-to-air missile system was successfully flight-tested by the DRDO from a test range off the Odisha coast. According to the defense ministry, the missile was test-fired around 12:45 PM on July 21. “Once deployed, the Akash-NG weapon system will prove to be a force multiplier for the air defense capability of the IAF,” the Ministry said. The missile can fly at about Mach 2.5.

Mali's Military Detains Prez, PM, Defence Minister Of Interim Govt
The military in Mali on May 24 detained the President, PM and Defence Minister of the interim government. Reportedly, the action came after government removed to military leaders in reshuffling. While the UN, African Union and ECOWAS urged for the immediate and unconditional release of the leaders, a military official from Kati said 'What they (the detained leaders) have done is not good' and the decision will be made soon.

Nearly 99% Of Armed Forces Given 1st COVID Jab, 75% Completely Vaccinated
Nearly 75% of the armed forces personnel are completely vaccinated while approximately 99% have been administered the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, informed the Defence Ministry sources. Reportedly, 15.5 lakh personnel have got the first dose while 11.7 lakh have been administered with both the doses. Notably, working as frontline workers, the forces have helped state governments in the COVID-19 pandemic.

India’s Arms Import Dipped By 33%; Russia Worst Sufferer: SIPRI
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute has reported a 33% decline in India's import of arms between 2011–15 and 2016–20. It cited India's complex procurement processes and the country's efforts to reduce dependence on imported arms and boost defense manufacturing at home as the reasons. Notably, the report said that Russia was the worst sufferer of the decline followed by the US from where India's arms import dipped by 46%.
