Over 100 Countries Promise To End Deforestation By 2030: COP26
In the COP26 climate talks held in Glasgow on November 1, over 100 countries promised to end deforestation and land degradation by the end of 2030. ''We will have a chance to end humanity's long history as nature's conqueror, and instead become its custodian,'' said UK PM Boris Johnson. Reportedly, forests help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 30%, preventing the climate from getting warm.

35 Arrested In Odisha For Destroying Reserve Forest
Odisha Forest and Environment Department arrested 35 people for illegally destroying a reserve forest area in order to ''construct permanent dwelling units'' in Sambalpur district on September 8. To stop the offenders, the Odisha govt has also increased the reward from Rs 1,000 to 5,000 for providing information about such people. Amazon Rainforest Emits Billion Tonnes Of CO2 A Year: Scientists
Scientists have discovered that the Amazon rainforest is emitting more CO2 than it absorbs. The study reported that a billion tonnes of CO2 are emitted by the Amazon rainforest every year. "Forest burning produces around three times more CO2 than the forest absorbs," said Luciana Gatti, who led the research. 30% of deforestation shows 10 times higher CO2 emission than deforestation which is lower than 20%, said Gatti.

Planet Lost Forest Area Bigger Than Germany In Just A Decade: WWF
A WWF’s (World Wide Fund for Nature) report revealed that the world has lost over 43 million hectares of forest in merely a decade’s time. Frighteningly, the loss is larger than Germany's area. UP Cuts Over 1.8L Trees For Bundelkhand Expressway, To Plant 2.7L Trees
The Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), in a reply to an RTI, has stated that it will plant over 2.70 lakh saplings along the Bundelkhand expressway. The exercise is aimed at compensating the loss of 1,89,036 tress, which were cut for the construction of the 296-km-long expressway. The expressway is expected to provide better connectivity between the Bundelkhand area of the state and the NCR.

40% of Amazon Rainforests May Turn into Grassland-Type Ecosystem: Study
In a recent study, Europe-based scientists have hinted that nearly 40% of Amazon rainforests could transform into Savanna-like grasslands.
