Delhi HC Asks Centre To File Status Report On NIA Cases Pending In NIA Courts

Delhi HC has asked for a status report of National Investigation Agency (NIA) cases, which are pending in the designated special NIA courts. With this, the court directed the central government to file the report within four weeks. The order has come after Manzer Imam, an accused under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) filed a plea before the bench.

Delhi HC Rejects Abortion Plea Of 23-Week Pregnant Unmarried Woman

An unmarried woman who seeked permission to abort her 23-week pregnancy, has been denied permission by the Delhi HC. Notably, the woman is 25-years-old and has conceived the baby in a consensual sexual relationship. Her plea has been rejected invoking Rule 3B of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Rule 2003, which doesn't allow pregnancies above 20 weeks in a consensual sexual relationship to be aborted.

Delhi HC Dismisses Petition Demanding NEET-UG Postponement

Delhi High Court (HC) dismissed a plea filed demanding postponement of NEET-UG 2022. During a hearing on July 14, the single bench of Justice Sanjeev Narula lashed out at the students saying, "This is totally a misconceived petition." Expressing anger over students, the court said, because the petitioners are students, the HC will not be harsh, otherwise they would have faced serious consequences, including fines.

Delhi HC Quashes Plea Against Conviction In POCSO Act For Raping Minor Girl In Her House

Delhi High Court on July 13 rejected a plea against a conviction and punishment under the POCSO Act for raping a young girl in her home in 2014. The High Court found that the appellant had exploited and breached the victim's parents' trust by taking on the role of guardian in their absence. In June 2021, the trial court sentenced him to life in prison for at least 14 years.

Delhi HC To Review Petition Demanding NEET 2022 Postponement

The  Delhi High Court agreed to hear a petition filed, demanding postponement of the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2022. On July 13, the plea was presented before the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, who listed the matter for an urgent hearing on July 14. In the petition, the students mentioned the inadequate time given to prepare for the medical entrance exam (NEET) scheduled for July 17.

Justice Satish Chandra Sharma Takes Over As Chief Justice Of Delhi HC

Former Telangana HC Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma took oath as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, on June 28. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena administered the oath to Sharma at the Raj Nivas, in a small ceremony. Notably, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, AAP MLAs, leaders and Delhi HC officials attended the event. Furthermore, Justice Satish Chandra Sharma took over, after former CJ DN Patel's retirement.

Covid-19 Violators Should Be Fined And Put On No-Fly List: Delhi HC

Concerning the Covid-19 violators, the Delhi HC asked the aviation department to take strict action against those without face-mask and not following hand hygiene protocol at the airports. On June 3, the court said, Covid-19 is not yet over and people should take protocols seriously. Furthermore, the court also asked to fine such violators and put them on a no-fly list. The DCGA has been directed to ensure implementation.

Delhi HC Issues Notice To St Stephen's College Over Unreserved Category Admissions

Despite Delhi University's caution, the Delhi High Court issued notice on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) contesting St Stephen's College's proposal to hold an interview round for admittance to the unreserved section for the academic year 2022-23. A law student, Konika Poddar, filed the petition. The court has given the University Grant Commission, St. Stephen's College, and Delhi University (DU) four weeks to file their responses.

Delhi CM Residence Vandalization Case: Delhi HC Asks Police To Submit Status Report

In the case of Vandalization incident which took place outside the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi High Court has directed the police to submit a status report of the investigation with the CM Secretariat in a sealed cover. Meanwhile, Delhi police submitted a status report to Delhi High Court, on May 30. Eight persons have been arrested so far, and notices have been served to 20 others.

Delhi HC Issues Notice To Amarnath Shrine Board Over Helicopter Service

Delhi High Court issued a notice to the Amarnath Yatra Shrine Board, in accordance with a petition filed seeking online bookings of helicopter services in Jammu and Srinagar. The petition complained that due to the unavailability of online bookings, pilgrims are suffering and black-marketing is happening. In regard to this, the Delhi HC issued notice and asked the shrine to file an affidavit, and adjourned the matter to May 31.
