Delhi Violence Case: JNU Student Sharjeel Imam under Judicial Custody till Oct 1

On September 3, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Sharjeel Imam was remanded under judicial custody till October 1. Imam was arrested on August 25 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. He was virtually presented to the Additional Session Judge Amitabh Rawat, who extended his arrest. Reportedly, the Delhi violence in the month of February took the lives of 53 people.

Delhi Assembly Panel Says Facebook 'Played A Role' In Provoking Delhi Violence

On August 31, Delhi Assembly's Peace and Harmony committee in its initial reports have found that Facebook has 'played a role' in inciting the Delhi riots of February 2020. The panel headed by Raghav Chadha said that officials of the social media platform will be summoned in the next meeting. The committee has also requested an independent investigation on the matter of the ongoing Delhi violence case.
