Mathematician Discovers 3700-Year-Old Clay Tablet

Australian mathematician named Daniel Mansfield has discovered a piece of clay tablet from the Old Babylonian Period, claiming it to be the oldest example of applied geometry. The 3700-year-old tablet also called Si.427 was housed in one of Istanbul’s museums for over 100 years. “It's the only known example of a cadastral document from the OB period, which is a plan used by surveyors to define land boundaries,” said Mansfield.

World’s Largest Sapphire Cluster Worth $100 Mn Found in Sri Lanka

A massive sapphire cluster rock was discovered in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka, and is believed to be worth as much as $100 million in the international market. The person who identified himself as Gamage, a third-generation gem trader found the stone in his property while digging his backyard. The gemstone is believed to be 2.5 million carats which makes it the largest gemstone ever discovered.

New Genus Of Treefrog Discovered In Andaman Islands

What can be termed as an incredible discovery, a new genus of frog family was found in the Andaman and Nicobar islands. The new genus - Rohanixalus - was named after renowned Lankan taxonomist Rohan Pethiyagoda. Its size is up to 3 cm, with coloured strips filled with speckles. The research head SD Biju stated that the discovery would help in assuring faunal exchange between Andaman and Indo-Burma region.
