Daughters Doesn't Lose Right On Property Even If Given Dowry, Court

A Goa bench of Bombay Court reviewed a peition and gave a historic judgement, saying a daughter has rights on their ancestral property. The court said, even if a daughter is given dowry, she doesn't lose rights on the family property.The court declared that the Plaintiff has an undivided right in the same and permanent injunction restraining the Defendants from transferring or conveying the said property, in the peitition.

Telangana Man Calls Off Wedding Amid Old Furniture In Dowry

A Hyderabad man who works as a bus driver called off his wedding amid 'old furniture' given in the dowry. A resident of Maula Ali was scheduled to get married on February 19, but he didn't turn up and when the bride's father went to the groom's house, they misbehaved and refused to get married. The Hyderabad police registered a case against the groom and his family.

Lucknow Woman Raped, Assaulted Over Dowry Demand, Police Arrests Husband

One Mohammad Adnan has been arrested for allegedly raping his wife, and assaulting her for dowry, confirmed Lucknow police on July 29. Notably, Adnan and his cousin, raped Adnan's wife, on July 26, when the victim was alone at her maternal's house, and then gave divorce through "triple Talaq".  The victim filed a case, following which Adnan was arrested and efforts to nab the absconding accused is underway.

Any 'Material' demand by In-laws Is Dowry, says SC

The Supreme Court said the word ''dowry'' should be granted broader interpretation in order to include any demand made on a woman, be it valuable security or money for the construction of property. Setting aside the verdict of the MP High Court, the SC bench led by CJI NV Ramana penned the judgement and held the husband and father-in-law responsible for the woman's death.

Dowry Death Case: 3 People Awarded Life Sentence

As per the Superintendent of Police R K Naiyar, Mamta was killed due to dowry by her husband in Karaundi's Bhimpura area on August 28, 2017. An FIR was filed against three people in a dowry case by the victim's family. However, a life sentence has been awarded to Chauhan's- Purvanchal (Husband), Keshav (Father) and Rukmani (Mother). Furthermore, the court imposed a fine of Rs 11,000 on each of them.

Man Hacks His Wife To Death Over Dowry In Uttar Pradesh

A man namely Manoj allegedly hanged his wife Saraswati to death following physically abusing her for dowry in public last month in UP's Tundwal village. The matter came to light when the video of the abuse was widely circulated on August 15. The deceased father gathered courage from watching the video and registered a complaint. The accused will be arrested soon, said police.

Woman's Leg, Rib Broken For More Dowry, Gold In Kerala

A 31-year-old woman alleged that her husband and in-laws brutally thrashed her in Kerala for "more dowry and gold," which resulted in the breakage of the woman's leg and rib bone. Reportedly, on the third day after their marriage, she was asked to ''sell her gold to buy an apartment." She was tortured for refusing the deal. Besides, the family paid 50 sovereigns of gold.

26-Year-Old Accidentally Shot Herself While Posing With Loaded Gun; Died

While posing for a selfie with a loaded gun, Radhika was allegedly shot dead as she accidentally pulled the trigger at her in-law's house at UP's Hardoi district. The 26-year-old got married in May 2021 to Akash Gupta. The family runs a small jewellery business. However, the victim’s father smelled it to be foul play and lodged a complaint of dowry against the Gupta family to the police.
