Defence Research Official Arrested For Sharing Info With Pak

A scientist working for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) here has been arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for providing confidential information to a Pakistani agent, confirmed officials. The scientist was allegedly in touch with an agent of a "Pakistan Intelligence Operative" through WhatsApp and video calls, an ATS official said. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

Centre Appoints Samir Kamat As New DRDO Chief

The central government has appointed Samir Kamat as the new chief of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), on August 25. Kamat is a distinguished scientist and Director General, Naval Systems and Materials. Kamat will hold the aforementioned office till he attains the age of 60 years, or until further orders. Meanwhile, G Satheesh Reddy (59) has been appointed as the scientific advisor to the Defence Minister.

Patients In J&K Applaud New DRDO Hospital Built In Anticipation Of Amarnath Yatra

Patients commended the government for creating a new Defense Research and Development Organization Hospital at Baltal base camp in Sonamarg, Jammu & Kashmir. It sought to give pilgrims and those involved in Amarnath Yatra health treatment. The government had previously built a hospital at Baltal base camp a few years ago, but its capacity was constrained and it was not equipped to care for all patients during the Amarnath Yatra.

Defence Ministry Orders 118 Advance Arjun Tanks From DRDO

To strengthen the Indian Army's defence capabilities, the Defence Ministry on September 23 placed an order to purchase 118 advanced versions of Arjun Tanks, MBT Mk-1A, in Chennai. The tank, developed by DRDO, is equipped with all-terrain mobility, invincible multi-layered protection, and can also work in day & night conditions. Reportedly, 118 tanks cost Rs 7,523 crore and the production of tanks will employ over 8,000 people.

DRDO Test Fires Surface-To-Air Akash Missile From Coast Of Odisha

The new generation Akash surface-to-air missile system was successfully flight-tested by the DRDO from a test range off the Odisha coast. According to the defense ministry, the missile was test-fired around 12:45 PM on July 21. “Once deployed, the Akash-NG weapon system will prove to be a force multiplier for the air defense capability of the IAF,” the Ministry said. The missile can fly at about Mach 2.5.

Dr. Reddy's Lab Launches New COVID -19 Drug '2-DG'

Dr. Reddy's Laboratories will soon roll out 2-deoxy-D-Glucose, a COVID-19 drug across private and govt hospitals. Its commercial launch was announced on June 28. The initial phase of the rollout will cover tier 1 and metro cities. Each drug sachet is set at an MRP of Rs 990 and the purity stands at 99.5%. However, the drug will be sold under the brand name 2-DG, only after the doctor's recommendation.
