In a distressing incident, a 12-year-old boy , who was reportedly saddened over not receiving new clothes for the Durga Puja festivities, leaped off a bridge and into the river at Golakganj in Assam’s Dhubri district. The deceased has been identified as Suman Roy, a student of class 8 at Gaikhowa Gandhigram Middle School. The drastic step of the kid has left the family in shock.

As a good news to India, the United National Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) gave the world heritage status to Kolkata's Durga Puja festival on December 15. Biswajeet Nayak, an artist from Puri has won hearts on the internet as he went viral for making a unique idol of Goddess Durga using 275 ice cream sticks. "It took me six days to complete this artwork," said Nayak. He further stated that he has designed a new type of mandala art on the statue. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation limited the size of the idol to 4 feet.

He also wished people good luck for the upcoming 9 days of Navratri, over a tweet. He also shared a picture of him worshiping Maa Durga including a video of Stuti devoted Goddesses Shailputri who's worshiped on the first day of Navratri.

The "Pully Puja committee" announced that the Durga Puja rituals this year will be performed by four priestesses, on August 22. The decision comes as a result of the death of a male priest last year. The committee's senior office-bearer Pradhuyamna Mukherji stated that the selected women qualify as worshippers of the goddess in every way. The committee hopes that the decision is welcomed by the residents.
