Assam: 12 Year Old Jumps Into River For Not Buying Puja Clothes

In a distressing incident, a 12-year-old boy , who was reportedly saddened over not receiving new clothes for the Durga Puja festivities, leaped off a bridge and into the river at Golakganj in Assam’s Dhubri district. The deceased has been identified as Suman Roy, a student of class 8 at Gaikhowa Gandhigram Middle School. The drastic step of the kid has left the family in shock.

4 Killed After Hindu Temples Vandalised In Bangladesh

Several Hindu temples were vandalised by miscreants during Durga Puja festivities in Bangladesh. The incidents forced the Bangladesh Government to deploy paramilitary forces in over 20 districts after four people were killed and several left injured. As per reports, some incidents of blasphemy incited mobs to violence and killings. The southern town of Hajiganj was the epicentre of riots, where four people were killed.

Puri-Based Artist Makes Goddess Durga Idol With Ice Cream Sticks

Biswajeet Nayak, an artist from Puri has won hearts on the internet as he went viral for making a unique idol of Goddess Durga using 275 ice cream sticks. "It took me six days to complete this artwork," said Nayak. He further stated that he has designed a new type of mandala art on the statue. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation limited the size of the idol to 4 feet.

Durga Puja festival begins from October 7 and every year Kolkata is known for its decorations of the pandals and the Durga idol. This year, two idols of Durga have been installed by Bandhu Mahal Club in Baguiati, out of which, one has golden eyes and the other wears an embroided saree. Moreover, the saree has 6 grams of gold and the eyes are made of 10-11 grams of gold.

Area Around Durga Puja Pandals To Be No-entry Zone: Calcutta HC

Owing to the menace of COVID-19 infection, the Calcutta High Court on October 1 declared the no-entry zones to the area where Durga Puja pandals would be erected across the state. Reportedly, the court had also issued a similar order last year to stop the crowd from gathering near pandals. Durga Puja 2021: Priestesses To Conduct Rituals This Year

The "Pully Puja committee" announced that the Durga Puja rituals this year will be performed by four priestesses, on August 22. The decision comes as a result of the death of a male priest last year. The committee's senior office-bearer Pradhuyamna Mukherji stated that the selected women qualify as worshippers of the goddess in every way. The committee hopes that the decision is welcomed by the residents.
