SC Grants Extension To SEBI To Investigate Adani Groups Issue
In the Adani Group case, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and asked to complete the probe by August 14. The bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud also directed the SEBI to file an updated status report on the investigation regarding Adani Groups' role in stock fluctuation and submit a report. The next hearing is on July 11.

Apex Court Resumes Hearing On Same Sex Marriage
Supreme Court bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud entered the second day of its hearing on the historic same-sex marriage issue. The bench continued hearing the bunch of PILs filed seeking legal validation for same-sex marriage in India. However, on the second day, the Central Government filed an application, demanding the appearance of states and UTs in the hearing, as they are major stakeholders and should give opinions.

SC To Hear Plea Challenging Pre Relase Of 11 Convicts In Bilkis Bano Gang Rape
The Supreme Court will hear the plea challenging the pre-release of the 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano Gang Rape case. On March 27, the SC bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud will hear the petition filed by Bilkis Bano, the gang rape victim. Notably, on August 15, the Gujarat Government released the 11 convicts, jailed in the case. After the release, Bilkis Bano filed a petition in the SC.

5 HC Judges To Take Oath As Supreme Court Judges
The Supreme Court is all set to get five new judges, taking its strength to 32 against the sanctioned strength of 34. Justice Pankaj Mithal, Justice Sanjay Karol, PV Sanjay Kumar, of high courts of Rajasthan, Patna and Manipur respectively along with Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Justice Manoj Misra will be administered the oath of office by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) as Supreme Court judges.

CJI UU Lalit Names DY Chandrachud As His Successor
Chief Justice of India (CJI) Uday Umesh Lalit named Justice DY Chandrachud to be his successor. With this, the tenure of CJI UU Lalit will end on November 8, following which the new CJI will take over charges. If approved by the Union Government, DY Chandrachud will be the 50th CJI and will take the official oath on November 9. Justice Chandrachud will have a tenure of over two years.

Centre Asks Chief Justice UU Lalit To Name Successor Before Retirement
The central government has asked Chief Justice of India (CJI) Uday Umesh Lalit to name his successor before retirement on November 8. Notably, Lalit was sworn in as the CJI on August 27, by President Droupadi Murmu. With the practice of CJI naming the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court as the next CJI, Justice DY Chandrachud is expected to become the 50th CJI.
