Ebrahim Raisi Elected As Iran's Next President
Ebrahim Raisi, Iran's right-wing Chief Justice was announced as the next president of the country, on June 19. The other candidates accepted defeat after Raisi won 62% of the total votes in the elections. "I congratulate people on their choice," said current President Hassan Rouhani. Raisi has come into power at a grave moment as Iran is trying to retrieve its severed nuclear deal to escape the economically draining US sanctions.
