Odisha Govt Announces 'Dry Day' For 5 Days In View Of Urban Polls

The Odisha government announced "dry day" for five days, starting from March 22, in view of urban polls. The announcement has come following the instruction of State Election Commission. As per the order, in the said days, liquor will not be sold or distributed after 5 pm in the polling areas. Elections will be conducted for 109 urban local bodies including three municipal corporations on March 24.

Congress Protests, Alleges EVMs Tampering After It Trails In 5 Poll Bound States

Alleging tampering with the Electronic Voting Machines Congress workers carried out protest outside the party office in Delhi. "In Goa, Congress is leading on 16-17 seats, it'll be the single largest party and we'll seek support in case numbers aren't enough," Congress leader Satej Patel said. In the early trends, AAP is leading in Punjab and in other states, BJP is leading in Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, and Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand Elections 2022 Results, BJP To Win With Maximum seats, Says Joshi

Uttarakhand's elections were believed to be in favour of BJP with Narendra Modi's and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's effort on the welfare of the people, as said by Union Minister and BJP's election in-charge Prahlad Joshi on March 10. BJP now adds up to 47 seats leading in Uttrakhand Assembly Elections as per the Election Commission data by 12 PM. The final announcement of the election results are awaited.

Civic Polls For 108 Municipalities Underway In West Bengal

West Bengal started civic polls for 108 municipalities from February 27, starting from 7 AM. The voting will go till 5 PM, said the West Bengal State Election Commission. More than 95 lakh voters are set to choose their representatives spreading to 2,276 wards. Polling is being held under police officers tight security. EC Sends Notice To UP Congress Candidate Ajay Rai For Remarks Against PM Modi

The Election Commission (EC) issued a notice to a Congress candidate in UP assembly polls, on February 22, for making unpleasant remarks against PM Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath. Reportedly, the remarks were made by Ajay Rai in a Facebook live, on January 31. With the notice, EC has given 24 hours time for Rai to respond. Notably, EC's model code refrains candidates from making unverified allegations or distortions.

Conjoined Twins Cast Votes As 2 Individuals: Punjab Assembly Elections

Conjoined twins cast two votes at Amritsar polling booth in Punjab Assembly elections, on February 20.  The twins were given dark goggles to maintain secrecy. In a unique case, the EC confirmed that the votes would be counted as two, and to be fair, the EC officers stationed at polling booth 101, Manwal area videographed the voting process. Notably, Sohna and Mohna are conjoined twins from Amritsar, Punjab.

Sonu Sood's Car Seized At Moga Polling Booth: Punjab Assembly Elections

Bollywood actor Sonu Sood's car was seized to enter Punjab polling booths, on the election day, February 20. The actor was allegedly stopped to avoid influence in voting, when he was attempting to enter Moga district, confirmed district Public Relation officer.  He further added, action will be taken against Sood if he tries to step outside his house. Notably, Sood's sister Malvika is contesting as MLA from Moga district.

EC Seeks Clarification From Akhilesh Yadav Over Violation Of COVID Protocols

The Election Commission has demanded an answer from the Samajwadi Party (SP) before 5PM on January 16, for the violation of COVID norms at the 'Virtual Rally'. According to sources, the party was permitted to conduct meetings via online, but almost 2000 SP supporters gathered at the party's office in Lucknow on January 14. However, multiple FIR's have been filed against the party.
