Congress Alleges Interference Of BJP In Election Commission Of India

The Congress alleged that the Modi government wants to ensure control over the Election Commission in a poll year. Sharing a letter written in June 2012 by veteran BJP leader L K Advani to then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said even he had said that the appointments to constitutional bodies should be done in a bipartisan manner to remove any impression of bias.

SC Directs EC To Hold Decision Over Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena Symbol Plea

The Supreme Court, which reviewed the plea of Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, over symbol battle, asked the Election Commission not to take any decision for now on the Eknath Shinde faction's plea. The bench led by CJI NV Ramana directed the EC to hold the decision regarding the symbol grant on Shinde's plea until next hearing. The bench would take a call regarding the Maharashtra political crisis on August 8.

Haryana Civil Polls Underway, 12.60 Lakh Voters Eligible

Haryana Municipal committees and municipal council elections for 28 and 18 seats respectively are underway on June 19. Tripura Violence: 6 MP Delegation Visits Election Commission To Submit Deputation

A six MP delegation of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party visited the Election Commission of India to submit a deputation in connection to the case of violence in Tripura. It was alleged that the violence erupted due to "BJP-sponsored goons". Reportedly, two AITC workers were allegedly beaten up in the Surma assembly constituency ahead of the bypolls. Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar's Election Challenged In HC: Uttarakhand
