Elgar Parishad Case: NIA Opposes Jyoti Jagtap’s Bail Plea, Says ‘She Was Spreading Illegal Activities’

In the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, activist Jyoti Jagtap who was arrested has filed a bail plea in the Bombay High Court. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) claimed that Jagtap was spreading activities of the banned “terror group” CPI (Maoist) in urban areas. NIA further contended that Jagtap has been trained to use weapons and explosives in case of a combat, and is an active member of the group.

Calling It Attempt To 'Thwart' Probe, NIA Denies Elgar Accused Plea

NIA has told the Bombay HC that the plea filed by two Elgar accused challenging the transfer of the probe is an attempt to "thwart" the investigation. In an affidavit, the agency stated that the "Naxal Plague has destroyed at many levels". It further said, the Centre suo motu directed the NIA to handle the case, given the gravity of the scheduled offense that reflects “national security”.

Tribal Activist Stan Swamy Passes Away Due To Cardiac Arrest

Stan Swamy, an 84-year-old Jesuit priest, passes away on July 5 at Holy Family Hospital in Mumbai. According to Dr. Ian D’Souza, Swamy suffered a cardiac arrest resulting in his death. However, the death caused due to pulmonary infection, Parkinson’s disease, and post Covid-19 complications, he added. Last year, Swamy was arrested for being the prime accused of the Elgar Parishad case 2018.
