Delhi Pollution Levels Decreases Amid Development: Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal addressed Publix and said, Delhi witnessed a dip in the pollution, despite development. Addressing a gathering at Thyagaraj Stadium on the occasion of World Environment Day, Kejriwal asserted that both PM 2.5 and PM 10 levels "fell by 30 per cent" in 2022. Arvind Kejriwal said whenever development happens, it is accompanied with pollution due to felling of dust, construction and other issues.

Madhya Pradesh: 5 Cheetahs To Be Released From Camps Into Free Ranging

Five cheetahs, three females and two males will be released from the acclimatisation camps into free-ranging conditions in Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park before the onset of the monsoon in June, said the Union Environment Ministry. The ministry said the decision was taken after a team of experts reviewed the current status of the "Project Cheetah" on the directions of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA.)

Air India Announces Single Use Plastic In Flights

Aiming for a better environment, Air India announced to limit the usage of single-use-plastic in future. Air India has reduced the usage of single-use plastic by 80 per cent on board all flights across its worldwide network,  said the airlines, in an official statement. The airline has also introduced 100 per cent compostable PET lids and primary-use plastic bags besides completely compostable waste bags.

Uttarkashi Avalanche: Death Toll Rises To 19, Search & Rescue Underway

The death toll in the Uttarkashi Avalanche tragedy has risen to 19 as of October 7. A team of mountaineers climbing the Draupadi Ka Danda-II mountain peak got stranded after an avalanche struck on October 4. Since then, rescue operations have been underway. Personnel from Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) are currently working in rescue missions.

Sydney Records Wettest Year Since 1858; More Heavy Downpour Expected In Australia

Australia’s Sydney recorded the wettest year in 164 years, with heavy downpour and major floods reported across several parts of the nation. Sydney has recorded 2,213 mm of rain, with three more months to go in 2022. The previous such record was in 1950, when Australia’s largest city of Sydney received 2,194 mm of rainfall. Meanwhile, the city is expected to receive more downpour in the coming days and weeks.

Earthquake Of 5.9 Magnitude Jolts Indonesia’s Sumatra

An earthquake of 5.9 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted Indonesia’s Sumatra island during the early hours on October 1. According to the US Geological survey, the quake killed at least one person and injured dozens of others as people rushed out of buildings seeking safety. Reportedly, the quake occurred at around 2:30 am 40kms from the town of Sibolga, and had a depth of 13 kms.

Earthquake Of 5.2 Magnitude Jolts Myanmar

An earthquake of 5.2 magnitude on Richter scale hit Myanmar on September 30, informed National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The quake was reported at around 3:52 am, and had a depth of 140 km. According to the NCS, the quake struck about 162 km Northwest of Myanmar’s Burma. No casualties have been reported from the incident. Further details are awaited.

Hurricane Ian: 23 Go Missing After Boat Capsizes Off Coast Of Florida

As Hurricane Ian hit the United States of America, a boat carrying migrants capsized off the coast of Florida, informed US Border Patrol. Reportedly, the blast sank due to harsh weather, and at least 23 have gone missing. Four Cuban migrants managed to swim to the shore following the incident. Two were rescued from the water about two miles south of Boca Chica. A search and rescue operation is underway.
