UK Home Secretary Priti Patel Approves Extradition Of Wikileaks' Founder Julian Assange To US
The case of extradition of Julian Assange to US was passed to the UK home secretary. Priti Patel, UK home secretary approved the extradition of Assange. However, Assange's counsel intends on filing a cross-appeal on Patel's order. Julian Assange was charged for alleged violation of the Espionage Act, in 2019 by the US government. Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks, is expected to face 175 years in prison, in US.

US To Demand UK HC To Extradite Wikileaks Founder Julian Assange
In the latest development, the United States government has decided to appeal a British Judge to overturn the last decision and extradite Wikileaks founder Julian Assange to the US. In January, UK district Judge Vanessa Baraitser had rejected the extradition request saying Assange's security may be compromised in the US. Notably, Assange is accused of releasing 5,00,000 secret files related to the Afghanistan and Iraq Military campaigns.

Pakistan's Tahawwar Rana To Remain Under US Federal Custody

Nirav Modi Appeals Against His Extradition To India In UK Court
Businessman Nirav Modi, whose extradition was earlier approved by the UK government, has appealed against the order in the UK High Court on April 28. He has challenged the orders of the Westminster magistrate court and UK Home Secretary Priti Patel. Nirav Modi claimed that he was being targeted due to political reasons and also alleged that he would not be getting a fair trial in India.

Extradition Hearing Of 26/11 Accused Tahawwur Rana Now On June 24
The extradition hearing of the 2008 Mumbai attack accused, Pakistan-origin Canadian businessman Tahawwur Rana, has been postponed to June 24. A US court's decision came after Rana's lawyers met the US government representatives. The two sides agreed to reschedule 58-year-old Rana's in-person hearing on June 24 at 1.30PM local Los Angeles time. Earlier, it was scheduled on April 22. Meanwhile, Rana’s counsels have opposed his extradition.

Unaware of Mallya's Extradition: Solicitor General Tells Supreme Court
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta has informed the Supreme Court that the government is unaware of the United Kingdom's procedures on extradition of Vijay Mallya. Reportedly, the External Affairs Ministry have stated that the UK's extradition order on Mallya has not come to effect yet. The court asked Mallya's lawyers to inform the bench about the proceedings and urged the external affairs ministry to produce him at the court on November 2.
