India's only top-ranked fencer, Bhavani Devi, has won the Charlellville National Competition in France in the Individual women's sabre event. Bhavani Devi Becomes India's First Fencer To Qualify For Tokyo Games
After the Budapest Sabre World Cup, India's Bhavani Devi is now India's first fencer to qualify for Tokyo Games due to the Adjusted Official Ranking method. After Hungary's defeat in the quarter-finals and Korea's accession to the semis, two openings were available for the Asia and Oceania region considering the world rankings counted up to April 5, 2021. Relatedly, the 27-year-old Tamil Nadu fencer rated 45th clinched one of the spots.
